Critter Mix….

I love nature & wildlife…scratch that…I don’t like its ‘dark’ side but much prefer observing its wonder and magic. My husband & I have several bird feeders, and even a squirrel feeder bursting with corn & critter mix, on our back deck. We get to watch all the cardinals, blue jays, chickadees, etc.

We get an added bonus when our squirrels perform circus acts in order to reach the bird food…apparently they feel the need to exercise, because their OWN feeder lovingly sits right on the deck for the easiest of access.

Extra amusement comes in the form of our chipmunks. They zip around the deck, hoovering up bird seed & filling their cheeks to bursting.

As if all this wasn’t enough to delight us, we receive late-night raids on the squirrel food by bandits otherwise known as raccoons. I’ve had the absolute pleasure of watching one look me straight in the eye, without blinking, as his little hand dips in for another serving!

There’s something to this that’s fundamentally profound…the simple joy of observing these critters and the laughs & smiles they evoke from us. After all, isn’t this what life is supposed to be?

Meditation Nation….

BREATHE!!  So the latest craze seems to be meditation…soothing the soul, calming the mind, and uplifting the spirit…great idea, but hard for some of us to do…sometimes it’s weird to just sit still and BE.   There are many ‘forms’ of meditating floating around out there, and of course, ‘there’s an app for that’

So many choices, but what’s right for you?  In my quest for much-needed peace in my life, I’ve tried several methods and will break them down for you here…please feel free to weigh in on the subject…

“CALM” – this is a popular app, and the guide has a very soothing voice, which is highly important.  She guides you through ANY subject you want to work on in your life.  It also keep track of your progress & usage.  Yes, there’s an annual subscription fee, but not more than $70, which comes down to less than $6/month.  They respond to inquiries & update the app often (another plus).  There’s also a fantastically supportive Facebook community..another bonus.

“BREETHE” – another app & another soothing voice to coach you through any subject you want.  It also involves an annual subscription fee.  A bit higher than “Calm,” but I was lucky enough to get a lifetime membership for around $89…maybe you could too.  They’re very good at responding to members as well as updating the app frequently.  They post a different video as you move along each week.

FLOWDREAMING” with Summer McStravick.  She has a website (www.flowdreaming.com) as well as a free app.  For those of you that are familiar with Esther/Abraham Hicks and the Law of Attraction, she used to work with them but developed her own method, which is flowdreaming .  Her meditations are less about ‘calm’ and more about powerful inspiration and tapping into your emotions.  It’s extremely uplifting and full of positivity.  She’s been doing weekly podcasts for years, and the app provides all of her past shows (free), along with a few minutes of ‘flowdreaming’ at the end of each one.  She’s grown so popular that she very recently created an entire radio network with podcasters that cover other inspirational content (www.inflowradio.com)

KYLE CEASE”  This guy rocks!  I just discovered him about 2 weeks ago, and I’m hooked!  He’s awe-inspiring and encourages you to talk to your heart, not your head.  His delivery is both comical & heartfelt at once.  I suggest his ‘Evolving Out Loud-Limitation Game’ series (lovingly referred to by him and all ‘followers’ as EOL).  It’s only 20 bucks, and if you’re soul searching, he helps you dig DEEP, so be ready!  You get 11+ hours of streaming video where he was doing a live event.  It was truly an experience.  He also has a very active, very supportive Facebook group (EOL Community). Please check him out at www.kylecease.com. It will change your world.

So, drop me a line and let me know how your quest is progressing or if there are other options I missed that are working for you (I’m sure there are many).  Tell me if you’ve tried any of the above and what your experience has been.  At the end of the day, we’re in this together to grow ourselves & find inner peace and joy…if I can help, it’s my pleasure

SELF HELP ME

Need help?  Look no further than your mirror.

Sooo…I’ve been trying desperately to help myself by investing time, money, and focusing on all things ‘self-help & self-improvement.’  Does it work?

Yes, but it’s a constant battle.  I listen to audiobooks, I’ve started to meditate (that’s another blurb all on its own), and still I struggle at times.  One of the biggest suggestions is to find gratitude for everything…and it does work…it helps your mind focus on what’s good all around you…even the little things we take notice of…a butterfly, that smile from a stranger as you pass each other in the grocery store, the fact that you’re BREATHING.

The thing is…unless you consistently remain cognizant of it, you can slip back very easily into those bad habits of low self-esteem, the ‘woe is me’ attitude, and all the rest.  It helps to have a group of supportive people and surround yourself with them…they will lift you up to your higher self…that place we’d all like to live…where the sky is brighter and the birds sing just for us.

In a future blog, I will expand on this and tell you all of the different methods I’m employing and suggestions for what helps me and might help you…are you game?    Give us a shout-out to what’s helped you.

I’m new to this format, so I think you would click on the title of this blog (Self Help Me), and it will enable you to leave a comment…
